How to become a Gigamon Certified Professional

Security is one of the most critical topics of conversation among IT departments and the C-suite today.

64% of companies have experienced web-based attacks.

Only 38 percent of global organizations claim they are prepared to handle a sophisticated cyber attack.

The average cost of a data breach in 2020 will exceed $150 million.

With stats like these, it’s no wonder companies are turning to solutions like Gigamon’s GigaSECURE to help them answer the question, “What will we do if we’re breached?”. GigaSECURE enables threat detection, containment, and remediation, making it a smart option for companies looking to reevaluate their security architecture.

Growing demand for these kinds of technologies means a growing demand for people who know how to architect and implement them. You can prove you have what it takes by earning the Gigamon Certified Professional certification being released this fall (exam available beginning September 2018). We’ll call it “GCP” for short.

As a GCP you’ll be able to implement Gigamon products (such as the GigaSECURE® Security Delivery Platform) using best practices to help improve enterprises’ security posture against today’s ever-changing cyber threats.

In order to become a GCP, you’ll need plenty of experience as a network security expert, and specialized knowledge relating specifically to Gigamon product implementation. You’ll then take the certification test to earn certification*.

As a Gigamon Premium Training Partner, we can help you get up to speed on the specialized knowledge through the Gigamon Certified Professional Bootcamp courseLearn more here.

What to expect from the exam

The certification test consists of multiple choice questions based on scenarios you may encounter when implementing Gigamon products. You’ll have to score 70% correct or higher to earn the certification. Notification of pass/fail is sent out within 48 hours of testing!

In the unfortunate event that you fail, know that you can re-test, but will have to purchase a new exam voucher.

35% of the questions will cover general security, networking and cloud knowledge, while the remaining 65% percent will cover specific knowledge relating to the implementation and configuration of Gigamon products. The questions will be chosen at random, and weighted as you see here:

The test will be delivered through a remote proctoring test service, so you can take the test from anywhere in the world, as long as you have internet connectivity and a working webcam and microphone.

How to prepare for the exam

Preparing for the GCP test may differ depending on who you are; partners, for example, may need to take a different path than end-users.

Partners will need to be certified to assist with installations. If you’re new to Gigamon, the Gigamon Foundation class is a good starting point. The Gigamon Certified Professional Bootcamp is an appropriate follow on to the foundation course, and is directly targeted towards those seeking the GCP certification. Please note that you will need experience in addition to these courses—the certification exam is no joke!

End-users can also begin with the Gigamon Foundation course, but may want to take the Designing and Implementing the Gigamon Inline Bypass Threat Prevention Solution course next to gain a full understanding of how to use these technologies to secure the network. At this point, if you’re interested in taking the GCP exam, you can prep with the Gigamon Certified Professional Bootcamp.
